Search Big Daddy - I Need A Clue

July 31st, 2007

Usually my posts are about ways to Monetize Your Site. I spend hours each day reading forums, relevant web sites, reading emails etc…. all that aim to make money with your site and I like to bring what I’ve gathered to this site and share it with my readers. However, this post is a complete turn around.  bigdaddy.jpg

Somehow I have signed up with Search Big Daddy.Com and I am at a loss to figure out just what its all about. I can figure out that in some fashion it is a search engine, but it might also be a blog, or a website, or a landing page, or a PPC system, maybe its all of those.

I guess the object of this particular post is to see if anyone can explain just What is Search Big Daddy and how do you make use of it. Can it be used to monetize your site? Is it some very elaborate scam or what?

If you are a Search Big Daddy user maybe you would like to send me a quick run down on the basics and I will be happy to publish it in a seperate post and give you full credit for it.

Hey Big Daddy, I need a BIG clue!

  • Well I can tell you that to date SearchBigDaddy IS NOT PAYING COMMISSIONS DUE TO AFFILIATES, at least in the one program I participated in.
Is it a scam? We’ll see - if I keeep getting excuses instead of checks,,,,well, decide for yourself. Any questions I can be reached at philvt@verizon.net

  • Update - I have received notice from the SearchBigDaddy management that affiliates can “expect all payments to be finished
    by December 15, 2007.”

These are payments due since 10/1 - I would love to see the money by Christmas!

I’ll post more as things progress….

  • hello. i think other people also not paid in other forum. i was thinking joining big daddy but not sure now after seeing other peoples talk. I was doing more finding about the big daddy pays programs and found your site and other site here. http://sbdalltalk.madmooseforum.com/index.php
not sure what to do now, any sugests.

    thank tuli

  • Hi Tuli,
I lost all interest in Big Daddy soon after I signed up. It looked like a big scam to get people to sponsor keywords for targeted cities. After reading the last few posts Im glad I got out without dropping any money or time. My advise…..get out while your ahead.

  • Paul here, I’m a Search Big Daddy City Keyword Manager and a State Director. If anyone of you is interested in joining Search Big Daddy my positions are for sale. This includes 6 cities, the Texas State Director and I’ll throw in 400,000 APs.

  • I sign up as a free affiliate in Nov. 2006, when they came out with the City Keyword managers program I bought 3- Cities for the price of one, now you have to understand, these were small Cities, total pop. in all three was about 65,000, at that time which was supposed to be lanch, they sold them for $299.00, now the agreement was when you bought these cities , if you ever wanted another city down the line you could get it for the locked in price of $299.00, well after about 3 months the cities went up to $495.00, so I called the corparate office to buy another city for the $299.00 price, and ha, ha, they said we have changed all of that, so I went ahead like a dumb-butt and bought another city, also when they first started the City keyword Manager, program they promised the moon, besides being able to buy the cities at thelocked in price, we were supposed to get all kinds of free keywords in the cloud page, lots of stuff, to numorus to go mention, first they said we had to sell 3 advertisements a week, or month, can’t reaily remember now, but then they came back and said no, you will not have any quotes to make we will make all the sells, and advertising on are end, we will be sending out mail-outs and advetising in the local newspapers, ha, no way did that ever transper, in Jan. of 2007 I sign up as a keyword sponsor, have payed them $29.00 a month for nothing! and the bad part is 11-09-2007 I went in my back office to cancel my keyword sponsorship, It said that it was canceled, but I keep showing as a KS instead of a free affiliate, so I called on 11-23-2007 to find out what was going on, and guese what, they charged my card again, and they will not give me back the $29.00. So to my way of thinking, yes, yes, they are a big with a capital B SCAM, they lie, and jump from one program to other.
If anyone needs to contact me my e-mail is frank77367@netzero.net I’ll send you my phone # and then I can tell you the rest of the story.

  • Hi Frank,

Thanks for a great review of the program. I suspected for a long time there was a catch to search big daddy. I hope your post helps others to avoid making a big mistake.

Thanks for taking the time to write the review and post it here.

  • Hi, Steve here. I joined SearchBigDaddy in August of ‘06 as a free affiliate. They immediately showed me the “value” in upgrading to Keyword Sponsor (larger commissions, primarily), so I did. Then they “sold” me on becoming a Keyword Manager (still more commissions and privileges/perks), so I did that. Then came the City Keyword Manager deal. I bought a city. Then came one thing after another to make still more money, each of them costing some fee, monthly or annually.

To date, I’ve sunk over $1800 into SBD. I haven’t seen one single penny in ROI. I see promises of “big things coming.” I see bragging about Alexa rankings. I see new ventures being introduced — BigDaddyFriends (social networking), SearchBigDaddy.NET (social bookmarking, ala del.icio.us), Project Kindness (which I don’t have a clue about), AdNet (pay-for banners on SBD properties/sites), and other things too numerous to mention. Much of it costs something.

I hesitate to use the word scam, since it could be libelous in print if you can’t prove it’s absolute truth. But it does seem to be an endless stream of income for the head honcho and his crones, and not much else.

SBD was billed originally as a new search engine alternative to Google, Yahoo, Msn, etc., with each affiliate having his/her own personal “portal.” The idea was that you earn “Advantage Points” for doing searches, and driving others to search on your portal. You use the “AP’s” to purchase keywords, skyscrapers, top positions (your site(s) displayed in an iFrame on all portals when people search your keyword(s)). Sounded good, and might have been if that had been all there was to it.

But the head honcho has shown that he wants to be all things to all people, with fingers in every variety of internet pie. He’s also shown that he starts everything with a big BANG, then fizzles out, leaving a job half-done.

Scam? Can’t say. Rip-off? For me so far, yeah. My advice? If you want to experiment, go ahead — but stay “free” until you see results. Do not put money into it until it proves itself. It hasn’t so far, and I’m afraid it will die a slow, painful death if something doesn’t start happening real soon.

    Happy Holidays all!
    Steve

  • Addendum…

I probably should have mentioned that SBD is actually MLM in its concept. You earn AP’s from your searches, as well as searches by your “downline” on their portals. You (supposedly) earn “cash commissions” when your downline members upgrade, as well as some percentage when their downline members upgrade.

No offense intended here, but MLM has never worked for anyone but it’s owners and the first level or two in at the very beginning.

    Steve

  • Even though I am also a City Keyword Manager with SBD I will advise everybody to stay away, or at least not to buy anything from them. (being a free affiliate cost nothing and it could drive a couple of people to your website with the free ads) The concept of Local advertising is good, there are other Search Engines doing it. Not SBD.
They have changed everything back and forth to keep us busy and waiting. The Alexa ranking they use to make us believe the opportunity has value, is obtained through the constant mailing of “communications”. They have a captive audience waiting for something real to happen and opening every mail, all of them contain a link, and this link once clicked is a visit to their site. SBD sends at least 2-4 of these daily to the 33000 members, they are repetitive, recycled and manipulative to the point of changing a little the subject line which is always kept inconclusive on purpose, (if you don’t know what it is, you have to open it to find out) just do the math. To top it off, many of these communications are actually a sales pitch for some new program they just joined as affiliates. We are nothing more than a mailing list. One that has paid to be there, in our case (Keyword Sponsors, Keyword Managers, CKM’s, Paid Affiliates, Program Participants, CAM”s etc. )
For those of us SBD fans waiting for the Digital Camera Cash Program’s Payments…. (let’s have a laugh here): The check, is in the mail….

  • I have been waiting on a $350 check for months from the Digital Camera Cash program…..where you list the picture of a local business and send in the business card and earn $5.
I have contacted TROY WAREN the top big daddy and keep getting the same answer “Checks are going out soon”…
Now my emails are not being returned….
    I smell scam!!
    Run away from this website!!!

  • I have been in SBD almost from the day they started.
I am ashamed to say how much money I have paid to Search Big Daddy with no return on my investments. My advise is stay away from them. Far away!
    Dale

  • Search bid daddy is nothing but a scam! I have been waiting to be paid my refund of $299 and they have been taking me round in circles, feeding me lies about sending me a check, and so far it has been months and have not seen a penny of my money! My advice, DO NOT invest anything with them as you will never see your money again!

  • Sorry to say but Search Big Daddy is a scam. They suckered me too. They have stopped anwering my support tickets. Some people have no shame.

  • I was part of the Digital Cash program. You went to local businesses and expained that there was free advertisement on SearchBigDaddy.com which included a photo of the business and the owner could add a small descriptio of the business, 80 words or less) and they could purchase more advertisement of which I would get a comission, I didn’t even bother to follow up on the supposed comission. Between 10/01/07 and 10/15/07 I submitted and was approved for 107 photos and 37 supporting documents. I was supposed to have a check for $325.00 mailed out on 10/15/07. On 10/17/07 I received an email stating that they needed a tax form, included as an attachment, for anyone receiveing over $600.00. I called on 10/17/07 at about 1400 and asked if this applied to me because I was under the $600.00, they said I should send in the paperwork Federal Express so I could get my money faster. I asked when I would receive my pay after they received my paperwork. They could not give me an answer. I mailed my paperwork in by regular mail that day. On 10/25/07 I received another email stating that the person in charge of the Digital Cash program was not doing the follow up on the documents and that they needed to do an audit of the entire program and no one would be paid until the audit was finished. There was no date for when payment could be expexcted and no one had a date when I called. As I am no longer associted with these people I could not access these messages from their system. The messages that follow this I saved and are direct quotes.

From the desk of Troy Warren

    Dear ,

I truly apologize for the long wait in receiving Digital Cash
    commissions.

As you may know, we had to complete an audit of our system. It took
twice as long to do than expected.

We discovered after one of our managers left her employment with Search
Big Daddy, that not only had proper tax forms been collected, but the
organization of the digital cash files were not properly handled.

None of this was your issue, and I am sorry that you were affected by
    it.

That said, the commissions will begin flowing next week. I appreciate
your patience and thank you in advance for allowing us to get the
system organized so that we may open the doors again soon. This allows a
very smooth transition into what will be one of the Internet’s most
    popular money makers.

I hope you and your family have a safe and wonderful Thanksgiving.

    Warmest Wishes,

    Troy

Subject: Digital Camera Cash (DCC) Update

    Dear ,

This message is for ALL Digital Camera Cash (DCC) affiliates.

As you may have heard… we had the unfortunate development of a key
management employee who resigned recently. This employee was in charge of
the organization and accounting of the DCC program. When she left the
company abruptly, she left no information or details so we could
continue to pay out the commissions due and that is why it has taken a while
to get it all straightened out.

It has been a long and arduous process to bring it up to date, but we
have now finally completed the details and performed an audit to ensure
we indeed have the correct information from which to pay out
    commissions.

You can expect your payment for DCC commissions on or before December
    15th.

We realize that none of this is or was your problem. We take full
    responsibility for that.

However, we choose to get this behind us and we are close to doing
    that.

I’d like to ask that you be patient a bit longer so we can finish the
process and I thank you in advance for your understanding and patience.
This will result in a speedy and positive resolution.

    Sincerely,
    Angela Smith

    Subject: Digital Cash Check

    Dear ,

I wanted to let you know that your check for $325 for Digital Cash is
scheduled to go out of our Chandler office the first week of February.

If you didn’t know, we had to conduct an audit on over 17,000
businesses to ensure we were not paying people who tried to “rip us
    off”.

We had companies call us and say they never talked to anyone and
didn’t authorize having their businesses photo in our directory.
People apparently snapped a photo, walked in off the street, grabbed
a business card and promptly walked out, never mentioning what they
were doing or talking to the business owners or managers about
SearchBigDaddy.com and getting authorization, which was required.

Search Big Daddy will not pay people that did that. So we conducted a
complete audit that took a little longer to complete than we
anticipated. But it was finished the end of December and we began
    paying in January.

You did your photos during the third pay period of the DCC program
and therefore will be paid during the third pay out period which
    begins Feb 1st.

Please look for you check during the first week of February.

    Sincerely,

    Angela Smith

    Hello,

I have been more than patient because I would really like this to work out but its almost three months since I should have been paid and I still have no money. The last paydate has come and gone with no check. When I call all I hear is the same “it’s on the way”. If I do not have a check in my posession by 1/11/08 I will file the complaint I have started with BOLI. Again I really hope this is not necessary, this would be a great part time job.

  • Well, well, well, am I glad I found this link. I also have been involved with SBD for past year and a half as a City Keyword manager. I followed all the new ideas with interest and great hope. Local search portals looked a really enterprising idea and being linked to local schools would be sure to introduce younger webbies to the concept of SBD.

The SBD wrapped cars were very eye catching BUT when the promised call centre and mass postcard mailing which was being highly promoted as launching in June/July 2007 ceased being mentioned, I got a bad feeling. I then found a few blogs from SBD members complaining they had not received due payments I warned myself not be tempted to invest another penny in SBD till I had received a return on my previous investments.

Recently all messages and emais from Troy Warren have ceased altogether and it seems that Angela Smith has also disappeared.

    Ah well, such a dissappointment.

  • I am a computer programmer who used to work for searchbigdaddy.com.

when i was hired he promised to pay me commissions in addition to a weekly salary. he never paid me a cent of the commissions. while he did pay me my salery.

i was fired 6 months later for when i complained that he promised me commisions but never paid them.

the more stuff I see about searchbigdaddy.com the more i think troy warren is a crook who screws everybody out of his commissions.

if you were screwed by search big daddy give me and e-mail and maybe we can help put troy warren in jail

    dirrosm@yahoo.com

last since i wrote much of the software that runs the searchbigdaddy web site i have a lot of inside knowlege on how the system works.

  • I lost over $2,000 in Search Big Daddy. I invested in City portals, Schools and other stuff. Made no money and even the commissions I should have received were never paid to me. All I can say is, I wish there was a way to shut down this business for good so no one else would lose money with them.

  • I have lost over $1,200 in SBD also. I know at least 70 city portals were sold in the UK which did not go live. The USA cities I have Never made a penny.
I am amazed that all the searchbigdaddy sites are still running, my expectation for the last couple of months has been to see headlines of Searchbig daddy closed down and arrests made.
Still getting search big daddy updates, but only more schemes to part with more and more money.

  • What a complete waste of time and resources. People need to let the FTC and other internet watchdogs know of this atrocity of a business with completely BOGUS opportunities!!!
They are professional con artists, it is clear to me. I have been blown off so many times by them, I can’t even keep track! Every excuse in the book has been used. WARNING to anyone thinking about paying them for anything, DON’T DO IT… you’ll highly regret it. They will take and take and take and won’t give back a penny of your money. They are using the internet and their Alexa rating is even falsely produced. The whole thing STINKS and I hope they are SHUT DOWN SOON!!! Complete Crooks!!!

  • Wish i could have seen these comments before, i too lost quite a lot of money on SearchBigDaddy. I am from India and have been calling Angela for quite some time, and tried to reach Troy, but troy never come on line.

Is there any forum where we can legally take this issue up jointly.

These kind of people need to be taught a lesson which they should remember for life.

    Regards
    Madhan.

  • Like everyone else here, I’ve been scammed by Search Big Daddy. I never contributed any cash to any of their programs, but I did jump on the Digital Camera Cash program when it came out. My wife is ill, which makes it difficult to hold a regular full-time job. This program seemed like a perfect solution. Working about 20 hours a week outside of the house, and another 10-15 inside inputting the information and pictures, I was averaging about $700 - $800 a week at the end. When they shut it down I was owed over $2000. I have received 2 small payments on that in the last six months, but I’m still owed over $1200. I spoke to an attorney who thinks we could all submit this as a class action suit for internet fraud, and definitely get a judgement in our favor.
Since the “corporate veil” doesn’t protect individuals in cases of fraud, we could not only go after the assets of Asystems Group and Search Big Daddy, but also the assets of Troy, Angela and any other officers of Asystems group, as well.
I am currently researching to find an attorney who will take this case on a provisional basis. If anyone here would like to be included in this class action civil suit, if and when I get it going, just leave your name and contact info as a reply to this thread.
